Alum Bruce Matthews - Class of 1979 -
considered
the most famous athlete ever to graduate from Arcadia High School was
inducted
into the Pro Football Hall of Fame on the 1st ballot over the weekend.
Bruce's
retired jersey is in the display case in the administration building hallway.
After
playing at USC, Bruce played 19 seasons for the Houston Oilers/Tennessee
Titans
and was All-Pro 14 times. He holds the record for the most games
ever played
by
a position player-296, and was selected to the NFL All-Decade Team in the
1990's
as
an offensive lineman. Many regard Bruce as the finest offensive lineman
ever
to
play in the NFL. Bruce's niece, Ashley Nick, graduated from AHS a
few years ago,
and
is now playing Soccer at USC.
